Real Weddings At The Cornish Place

It feels like we’ve been planning weddings here for a long time. Andi had a wedding cake company in our previous life, and we always knew that The Cornish Place would be perfect for small, bespoke and elopement weddings - nothing conveyor belt-ish here!

We started between the lockdowns with a few photoshoots, just to get a flavour of what might work here. Phoebe from Piccolo weddings had so much enthusiasm for what we have created here, and styled three very different shoots just perfectly.

We took our first wedding bookings from April 2021, when we knew the new cottage would be completed and we could sleep up to 16 on site across the three cottages. This felt to us like the perfect size for a small intimate wedding with maybe immediate family or close friends having exclusive use of our country cottages here in Cornwall.

We have now hosted three weddings. All small, but all very different.

Helen and Paul booked all three of our cottages for a week. Their party of 13 had plenty of time to relax into their surroundings and prepare for their Wednesday weddings without any stress at all. Helen even made their wedding cake in the Barn cottage!

Their ceremony was in the Woodshed, with the addition of just a few flowers and fairy lights to enhance its rustic charm. They chose Olivia WR Photography to record their special day, who whisked them and their gorgeous hound off to the bluebell woods opposite us for some beautiful photos (including Paul on the rope swing!) They then had champagne in the courtyard before a fab meal prepared by The Aussie Smoker, finishing their evening around the firepit with blankets to cosy up.

Lauren and Oliver booked just the Barn for their elopement wedding. It looked stunning with an abundance of flowers from Lafonia Flower Company, then they celebrated with a relaxing afternoon tea from White Radish catering. Their children and parents joined them for their special day, and then they had a couple of days’ relaxation all to themselves. Sarah from Lyra and Moth took these dreamy photos, again with an outing to the Bluebell wood opposite.

Yesterday’s wedding was another with exclusive use of all three cottages. Katie and Jack arrived on Thursday afternoon, with the rest of the party joining them a couple of hours later once they’d had a chance to settle in with their gorgeous dog Blue. Having a dog friendly wedding was very important to them and Blue had a starring role as their ring bearer! Their ceremony and celebration were in the Piggery with its picture window overlooking the Cornish countryside enhanced with beautiful blooms from Lafonia Flower Company.

Olivia WR Photography took Katie and Jack to the beach at Portreath (only 15 mins away) for some photos while their guests relaxed in the cottages. Rupert from Philleigh Way was on hand all day to cater for the wedding - from breakfast to start their day, canapes with their champagne, then a woodfired feast in the evening. That cake from Peboryon took me back to my own cake-making days, but still not quite tempted to go there again! Yet again Olivia did an amazing job and the highlight photos arrived superquickly this morning!

We gift all of our couples a sapling to plant in our fields. Our initial focus is a row of crabapple trees along the new fence in the play field. Some choose to plant it in their finery while their photographer is here to record it, but here is my pic of Lauren and Oliver planting theirs the day after the wedding. A permanent reminder of their wedding day that they can come and visit in future stays, and helping us be a little bit greener - an excuse to plant trees can never be a bad thing?!

Looking forward to a few more weddings here this year - we never plan to have loads as we are keen to make each one feel special.

All of our wedding prices include your choice of tables and chairs from a selection, the services of Phoebe our wedding planner to help select the best suppliers to suit you (and there are a LOT of fantastic suppliers in Cornwall!) and be here on the day to help everything run smoothly, and cottage accommodation for you and your guests. Our smallest weddings (up to 6) have use of the Woodshed for their ceremony and celebration, whereas our larger weddings that take over exclusive use of all of the cottages can use the Piggery and courtyard as well.

We have enquiries now for 2023 and 2024, although still have a few slots available this summer so please get in touch soon!
