Dog Friendly Cornwall

We had a visit from a photographer from Paws and Stay last week, and as we are now registered with them I thought it would be a good opportunity for a bit of a blog about visiting The Cornish Place with dogs.

We welcome ‘welll-behaved’ dogs in all of our cottages - a definition which is obviously open to interpretation. If your dog is not a fan of other dogs then maybe best to leave them behind for your own relaxation, but as long as they are on a lead in all communal areas except the dog walking field, we would love to meet them! Dogs should not be left on their own in the cottages for their own welfare (strange surroundings can make them very stressed without their humans for reassurance!) but we can arrange an experienced dog sitter if you fancy a trip out without them.

Dogs on Beaches

Polly Joke beach is dog friendly all year round.

The current Public Spaces Protection Order in relation to dogs on beaches can be seen here. It is fairly simple to understand - most beaches do not allow dogs in July and August between 10am and 6pm. Exceptions close to us are Gylly Beach which is a blue flag beach so more restrictive (15 May to 30 September) and some that allow dogs all year round - notably Loe Beach, Grebe, Perranporth and parts of Gwithian (heading East from the steps at Sunset Surf). It is always a good idea to double check! This PSPO is currently up for consultation so please have your say here.

Dog walks from our door

1. Gilly Woods

On top of the granite ‘bridge’ in the woods.

Turn right out of our drive, and after 50metres you will notice a ‘drop’ in the wall on the left. An easy clamber and you are in the beautiful beech wood. Not an ‘official’ footpath, but well used by locals this wood is full of bluebells in the Spring and a great place to wander, with lots of smells for dogs!

2. Bridleway to Stithians

Views all the way to Bodmin on a clear day!

Again turning right out of our drive, after 50 metres or so you can turn right up the track to Anghear Farm. Follow this track all the way past Higher Trewithen, across the lane at Tremboath and onto the footpath which leads across the field to Stithians. A lovely 30 minute walk on a sunny evening to the Seven Stars pub for a pint. You can either retrace your steps or continue on to meet up with the Gilly Wood walk - ask us for details.
