Focusing on our impact

We are trying to tread as lightly as possible on the land around us. We are members of the local environmental group and are embracing all the possibilities for reducing our consumption of anything that can’t be reused.

How we approach it

Our Sustainable Tourism Solutions

Our house and the cottages all have their own air source heat pumps drawing heat from the air for hot water and underfloor heating. We use no oil or gas for heating at all.

Air Source Heat Recovery

Fresh Spring Water

We have our own Cornish water from a borehole treated by a state of the art UV filter, so there are no nasty chemicals at all. We ask that our guests avoid buying plastic bottles of water and we provide them with a reusable steel water bottle in their welcome hamper.

In 2021 we had a 22V EV charger installed in the car park. All guests can have unlimited use of this during their stay for a fixed charge of £50.

Electric Car Charging

Although public transport in Cornwall is not really a viable holiday option yet, we would encourage guests to reduce their carbon footprint and consider travelling by train to our local station where they could then hire a car for their stay. We provide whatever we can to help you travel light and you can hire paddle boards, body boards, bikes and surf boards very easily. Local electric car hire hopefully coming soon!

Public Transport

All waste from the cottages is collected by a local company that has specialised in the holiday waste sector for 20 years. They have their very own recycling facility and track their waste from ‘cradle to grave’. Any waste that cannot be recycled is used to create green energy. Read more about them here

100% Recycled Waste

We are lucky to be surrounded by so many farms that our food miles (and those of our guests) can often be measured in metres rather than miles! There are several fabulous farm shops locally, many of which will deliver to our door. And of course there are our own efforts with vegetable growing and eggs from the chickens - we could always do better but are trying very hard! We also planted 150 trees this winter and have just heard that we have Woodland Trust funding to plant more next year.

Sourcing Locally

When we moved here from South West London, we were keen to try and become part of the local community and support it by sponsoring a local charity. We hit upon The Wave Project who are celebrating their 10 year anniversary this year. The Wave Project provides surf therapy courses for children with mental health issues. These courses have been so successful that they can now be prescribed by some GPs! We are donating 21 nights a year for the charity to use for fundraising, rewarding volunteers and team building events. Look out for more about our partnership, including competitions, on facebook and instagram.
