The last music festival of the Cornwall season, visit Healey’s Cyder Farm for a late summer celebration. The Little Orchard Cider and Music Festival is a family-friendly gathering which brings you live bands, a BBC Introducing stage showcasing up-and-coming talent and an outdoor silent disco. Dance your socks off whilst sipping on a range of delicious ciders, which bring summer to your tastebuds too. 

Redruth’s International Mining and Pasty Festival

Where: Redruth 

For a niche event, shrouded in Cornish culture, don’t miss Redruth’s International Mining and Pasty Festival. Friday offers a guided walk where you can learn about Cornwall’s mining heritage, wrapping things up with a smoking of the stacks at Wheal Uny Mineworks. Saturday brings stalls and workshops, plus the opportunity to sample a range of delicious Cornish pasties. It’s a family friendly event taking place just a few minutes’ drive from The Cornish Place.

Where: Penlee Park 

Join Cornwall’s most wholesome food festival, where you can sample delicious food from a range of local suppliers and businesses. Based in Penlee Park, relax under the trees and feast surrounded by greenery. In addition to food stalls there will also be cookery demonstrations from some of Cornwall’s best chefs. Penzance Food Festival has a strong focus on sustainability, with compostable cutlery, zero single-use plastic and a focus on waste management. There’s also a wellness area where you can enjoy a host of workshops to further enhance your relaxation.

Where: Lemon Quay

The biggest food festival in Cornwall, Truro Food Festival brings you everything from the finest Cornish seafood to gourmet burgers and woodfired pizzas. If there’s still room afterwards, sample Cornish cheese, homemade pastries and plenty of other local produce. This family friendly event also includes live music, hands on activities and craft stalls from local makers. Plus, there’s plenty of craft beer, local cider and Cornish gin to be sampled.

Join Dukes Theatre Company at the beautiful National Trust Trelissick for a contemporary take on this Shakespearian tragedy. An open air performance, you’ll get to enjoy a stunning woodland setting during the entertainment. Bring your own camping chairs, blankets and snacks to make the most of the experience and arrive early to explore the gardens beforehand. 

Summer Fun at Cornwall Gold

When: Monday 1st to Saturday 6th September

Join in the last of the summer fun at Cornwall Gold, based at Tolgus Mill Heritage Site. Tolgus Mill is the last tin streaming mill in Europe and free guided tours help visitors to learn more about its fascinating history. There are also plenty of interactive exhibitions for children to enjoy, including panning for gold, pottery painting and ‘pick-a-diamond’ activities.

For more open air theatre, visit Helston Boating Lake for Illyria’s performance of HMS Pinafore. A comic opera with catchy tunes and a fun love story, it’s appropriate for all ages. Buy tickets in advance as they often sell out and bring your chairs and picnic blankets to make sure you’re comfortable. It’s also worth browsing the list of Coronation Park events to see what else is on during your visit. 

Leach Pottery at National Trust Godolphin

When: Saturday 20th September 

The Leach studio, based in St Ives, is one of the UK’s most prestigious pottery schools. Join them for this one-day only event at National Trust Godolphin to explore the joys of crafting with clay. A professional potter will explain and show the process step by step, then support you to make your very own clay badge. The event is free and you can drop in any time between 10.30 am and 3 pm as long as you purchase a ticket to the Godolphin grounds.

The best beaches to visit in Cornwall this September

Perranporth Beach 

Head to Perranporth for surf lessons or to free surf the waves. Including 3 miles of golden sand, a hidden tidal pool, board rental and a bar on the beach you’ve got everything you could ever want at this stunning north coast location. 

Flushing Beach 

Trefusis beach in Flushing is one of our favourite places to enjoy the last of the evening sun and views over the maritime port of Falmouth. Time your visit with high tide and you can jump from the pier into the sea. This beach is dog friendly and the perfect spot for a picnic too. 

Maenporth Beach 

Maenporth is known as one of Falmouth’s more tranquil and family friendly beaches. It’s also an excellent spot for paddleboarding, wild swimming and at high tide you can get a good look at the shipwreck on the left hand side with a snorkel.
