The Farm

26 Acres of Space

Gilly Vean Farm is a 26 acre Victorian Dairy Farm found down the narrow tree lined lanes of West Cornwall. It has 11 fields of lush pasture and wildflower meadows, many of which can be enjoyed by our guests. Inside all cottages have every little luxury for your perfect holiday.

On Arrival

Parking is in the front field away from the cottages, to create a car free idyll for children and animals to play in safety. We will be on hand with wheelbarrows to help with luggage and tired children! Well behaved dogs always welcome! The play field, largely level for an impromptu kick around, the picnic field (complete with rugs and blankets) at the top with its views for miles and the dog walking field for our four legged friends. With its endless views of open countryside, our rural location off the beaten track means true peace, fresh air and tranquility.

Landscape

A Designed Space

The immediate landscape around the cottages has been designed for us by the award winning Matt James. Matt was Channel 4’s City Gardener and since 2014 has led the degree level garden and landscape design programmes based at the Eden Project.

Leave your car at the gate, and as you walk through you will immediately relax into the magical landscape he has created for us. Each cottage has a generous secure private garden complete with wood fired hot tub, fire pit and barbecue as well as access to the stunning communal courtyard.

The communal courtyard is bounded on three sides by the two cottages and the back of our house. This courtyard, together with the Piggery, serves as the perfect spot for tea and cake when you return from a day on the beach and to chat with old or new friends over a local beer or two in the evening. There are fire pits to huddle around while you star gaze at the end of a busy day. And on those occasional days where the weather doesn’t play ball, there are plenty of board games and puzzles. Self catering with a little bit more, for a truly memorable holiday.

Surrounding Area

Of course, the main reason many people come to Cornwall is it’s amazing beaches.

We are lucky to be conveniently situated in the ‘skinny bit’ of Cornwall, so are only 7 miles from either north or south coast beaches. Paddle boarding and swimming on the calm South Coast, or surfing and bodyboarding in the wilder North, there’s somethimg for everyone. We can also arrange equipment hire and lessons in advance if required.

Stithians is our nearest village and is only 1 mile away by road, or an enjoyable half an hour walk from the gate via bridleways and footpaths. It has a popular village pub and a couple of convenience stores. Our local artisan bakery can also deliver fresh bread daily if you need further temptation! Stithians reservoir is very close with a water-sports centre for sailing, windsurfing and paddle-boarding (and a great little cafe for breakfast!) and we are also near to the Mineral Tramway bike trail (and can arrange bike hire in advance if required).
